WHAT YOU NEED TO PURCHASE

✅ VALID CALIFORNIA ID OR DRIVER LICENSE

To legally purchase a firearm or ammunition in the state of California, you MUST present a valid California ID or Driver License. Double-check that your full legal name and current address are correct.

If your ID says “FEDERAL LIMITS APPLY”, you’ll also need to bring proof of U.S. citizenship or lawful presence. Acceptable documents include:

  • U.S. Birth Certificate

  • Valid U.S. Passport

  • Certificate of Naturalization

  • Valid immigration documents (for non-citizens legally in the U.S.)

If your legal name has changed due to marriage or divorce and your ID doesn’t reflect that change, you will need:

  • Marriage Certificate

  • Divorce Decree or Name Change Court Order

✅ FIREARM SAFETY CERTIFICATE (FSC), HUNTING LICENSE, CCW, OR EXEMPTION

To purchase a firearm in California, most people need a valid Firearm Safety Certificate (FSC).
This applies to all buyers age 21 and over unless you meet an exemption:

You are EXEMPT if you are:

  • Active-duty military with valid DOD ID + PCS Orders

  • Law enforcement with valid department ID

  • California CCW holder

Buyers age 18–20 can ONLY purchase long guns (non-semi-auto centerfire) with a valid CA hunting license.

🔹 NOTE: All non-citizens must present a valid CA Hunting License for firearm purchases—no exceptions.

✅ PROOF OF RESIDENCE (FOR HANDGUNS OR IF ID ADDRESS IS INCORRECT)

If you’re buying a handgun, or if your ID doesn’t match your current home address, you’ll need one additional proof of residency.

Accepted documents must include your full legal name and current physical address:

  • CA Vehicle Registration (preferred)

  • CA Hunting License

  • Utility Bill

  • Cable or Internet Bill

🚫 We CANNOT accept:

  • Cell phone bills

  • Bank statements

  • Insurance cards

  • Medical bills

📎 Bills must be dated within 90 days of the DROS (Dealer Record of Sale) submission.
